Earlier this week, the Children's Book Council held an awards ceremony during which several of my favorite authors and illustrators were honored when they received Children's Choice Awards.
Rick Riordan was selected as Author of The Year by the Children's Choice Awards for the first book in his new Heroes of Olympus series, The Lost Hero, a spin-off of his Percy Jackson series.
Also honored by the Children's Choice Awards was David Weisner, Illustrator of the Year for his book, Art and Max. (David Weisner was raised in Bridgewater, New Jersey before attending RISD!)
Additional Book Honors were given to:
K to 2nd Grade:
Little Pink Pup by Johanna Kerby (Putnam)
3rd to 4th Grade:
Lunch Lady and the Summer Camp Shakedown by Jarrett J. Krosoczka (Knopf)
5th to 6th Grade:
The Red Pyramid (The Kane Chronicles: Book 1) by Rick Riordan (Disney-Hyperion)
Teen:
Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan (Dutton)
Some of the book finalists included How Rocket Learned to Read by Tad Hills; Big Nate: in A Class by Himself by Lincoln Pierce; and Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins.
The finalists for Author of the Year were: Cassandra Clare, Jeff Kinney, Suzanne Collins, Stephanie Meyer and Rick Riordan
