Writing Contest: Ages 9 to 14

Calling All Writers, ages 9–14!!

In celebrating the release of Juniper Berry: A Tale of Terror and Temptation, Walden Pond Press is now accepting submissions for the Juniper Berry Story Contest. The contest, open to 9- to 14-year-old aspiring writers, will be accepting thrilling stories of terror and temptation now through July 1, 2011. Author M.P. Kozlowsky will help judge all the submissions, the winner will receive an iPad and publish his or her story on the Walden Media website (www.walden.com). All the details can be found at www.walden.com/win/juniperberry

The contest has only a few simple rules:
  • You must be 9 to 14 years old
  • Your entry must be submitted before July 1, 2011
  • You must be a U.S. resident
  • Your story has to be 500–1,500 words

The stories will be judged on entertainment, creativity, and craft (spelling, grammar and punctuation). Winners will be announced in September 2011.

For young writers that may need a hand getting started, the website also offers a Juniper Berry Writer’s Guide to help with the creative process. Adds Flaherty: “To our young authors: don’t forget to get someone to proofread your story for spelling and grammar and let some people read it. Listen to their feedback. And good luck!”
