Review: Witches of East End by Melissa de la Cruz

Adults who can't get enough paranormal YA are going to love Witches of East End, the first book in a new series by Blue Bloods (YA series) author, Melissa de la Cruz.

Several YA authors are making the leap over to adult audiences, and if Melissa's new book is any indication, we adults are in for a fun summer!

When I first received this book I wondered if it was going to be a remake of the John Updike's Witches of Eastwick.  Okay, so I only saw the movie (hello?  Jack Nicholson.) but Witches of East End was nothing like that at all.

Joanna Beauchamp and her two daughters, Ingrid and Freya, are centuries-old immortal witches who have not been allowed to use their powers since the trials in Salem.  However, when their little town of North Hampton starts seeing more than its fair share of influenza cases, infertility, and crime, they break some rules and begin using their special talents again to help their friends and neighbors.

Witches was my first book by Melissa de la Cruz, but I smelled a bit of crossover as the sisters had a few run-ins with the Blue Bloods.  Fans of her Blue Bloods YA series will be thrilled; those of you who don't know the Blue Bloods won't be lost, but might be intrigued enough to want to read Blue Bloods (me! me!).

Most definitely adult...this book is sexy! But not trashy in the least.  Beyond the magic and the steamy love scenes, Melissa de la Cruz creates a world I want to live in.  North Hampton is a magical little town all on its own.  The three main characters were well drawn, and even the supporting cast of characters was strong and complete.

I really enjoyed this book.  It was light and fun, yet complex enough to be entertaining and leave me wanting more!

"The Cobbler's Daughter's Elephants"  - hysterical!  (read Witches, and you'll undertstand)

I'll have to think about this book since I'm not really into paranormal.
