Review: Let's Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson (Audio)

Hilarious!  I was caught guffawing and driving!

If anyone could succeed in bringing their blog to book form, it's The Bloggess

Jenny's stories are brought to readers in LET'S PRETEND THIS NEVER HAPPENED.  She has been sharing the ups and downs of her odd existence on her blog, but these are the highlights. These are her life stories, which don't always blend together or have an overall point, but they are highly entertaining.

A note on the audio production:  While Jenny's voice isn't as "smooth" as professional voice-over actors are (hard "g" on the end of words like running), she does not sound like she's reading, which is one of my pet peeves.  Her Texas accent is in full effect - adding to the humor and charm of her memoir.

While her listeners are treated to Jenny's own narration, I missed seeing all the photographs that are in the printed book.  I flipped through the book in the bookstore to see some of the pictures, and if faced with a choice between audio and's a tough call.

I might want to mention that if you're at all offended by swearing or uncomfortable with the use of the word "vagina" this might not be the book for you.  The language is not excessive, in my opinion, so don't be scared away by this.  In fact, there is something about the way Jenny says the word "vagina" that makes me giggle.  I'm adolescent in my humor, it's OK.

I think one of my favorite parts about this book are the notes to and from her editor.  When I took a closer look and realized that this was an Amy Einhorn book, it all fell into place.  (I have an editor-crush on Amy Einhorn and will read anything from her imprint...genius!!)

Now that Jenny has gone from Blog to book, she needs to take her stories to prime-time.  The banter between her and her husband, Victor, is hilarious, and reminds me of Jamie and Paul from Mad About You...but more dysfunctional...and with more dead animals.

I wish I'd experienced this book on audio. It got old in print after a while.

Sandy lent this one to me on audio, and to say that I am excited to get to it would be an understatement! I am so glad that you loved it too. Fantastic review today!

This book reminded me a lot of "The Imperfect Enjoyment" by Dewan Gibson, though a bit less funny. Still it's definitely worth a Kindle download.

Nice review. I understand what you mean about the entire thing being too much at once but I might give it a try anyway. And I love the cover!
